Fishing at KG Retreats
Quiet water, patient hours.
Set within the same 30-acre estate as our Shepherd Huts, KG Fishing Lakes offers exclusive carp fishing for guests during their stay. Away from the noise of everyday life, our lakes provide a calm, considered setting for experienced anglers looking to spend a few unhurried hours by the water.
Both lakes are now open and bookable as part of your stay.
Booking Information
Fishing is available exclusively to guests staying in our Shepherd Huts and must be booked in advance as part of your stay.
- Fishing cannot be booked separately from accommodation
- Lake 2 (Standard Lake) — £50 per night, per stay. Carp up to approx 30lb
- Lake 1 (Specimen Lake) — £75 per night, per stay. Carp up to approx 50lb
- Pre-booking required
- Available from 12:00pm on your day of arrival until 12:00pm on your day of departure
Please note fishing times differ from Shepherd Hut check-in and check-out:
- Shepherd Hut check-in: 3:00pm
- Shepherd Hut check-out: 10:00am
Unless agreed in advance, guests must adhere to the accommodation arrival and departure times.
Angler Requirements
KG Fishing Lakes is intended for experienced anglers only. All anglers must:
- Hold a valid Environment Agency Rod Licence
- Be experienced in safe fish handling and fish care
- Follow all lake rules and guidelines at all times
A Catch and Release Fishery
KG Fishing Lakes operates a strict catch and release only policy. All fish must be returned safely to the water after capture, to protect fish welfare and maintain the quality of the fishery for every guest who fishes here after you.
- All fish are catch and release only
- Fish must be handled with care at all times
- Suitable unhooking mats must be used
- Fish should be returned to the water as quickly and safely as possible
- Barbless hooks only are permitted
Lake Rules
- All anglers must hold a valid Rod Licence
- Fishing is permitted on both Lake 1 and Lake 2 from designated fishing areas
- Daylight fishing hours only — overnight fishing is not permitted
- Noise must be kept to a minimum, out of respect for fellow anglers, guests and local wildlife
- Please take all litter home with you and leave your fishing area clean and tidy
Bait Restrictions
To protect the health of our fish stock and maintain water quality, only approved baits may be used. Hook baits should be used sensibly and discreetly at all times.
The following are strictly prohibited: nuts (including tiger nuts), particles, groundbait, spodding, maggots, and live bait.
Safety
Your safety is important to us.
- Swimming is only permitted in Lake 2 and only when fishing is not taking place
- Swimmers must stay at the top end of the lake and away from the buoys
- Please be aware there are carp in the lake — confident and able swimmers only
- Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times around the lakes
- No swimming or wading in Lake 1 at any time
- Please keep your fishing area tidy and free from hazards
- Take extra care around the water’s edge, particularly during wet or slippery conditions
- Safety is everyone’s responsibility
Children and Dogs
Children
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult and supervised at all times around the lakes.
Dogs
Well-behaved dogs are welcome, on a lead at all times. Please don’t allow dogs to enter or swim in the lakes, ensure they don’t chase wildlife, and clean up after them.
Booking
By booking fishing at KG Fishing Lakes, all anglers agree to follow these rules and guidelines. Failure to comply may result in fishing privileges being withdrawn without refund.
